exon junction complex

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

(EJC)

A complex of proteins that assembles on newly spliced RNA 20 nt upstream of the exon–exon junction and is a central effector of mRNA functions. It contains factors involved in mRNA export, cytoplasmic localization, and nonsense-mediated mRNA decay and it is claimed that the presence of an EJC enhances the translatability of mRNAs, although the mechanism is not yet understood.
