Quick Reference

Occupational or recreational injuries of the eyes and adnexa are extremely common, but because the bony orbit protects the eyes, these injuries are not often a serious threat to eyesight. Nonetheless, all must be treated seriously. Common injuries include corneal and conjunctival foreign bodies and corneal lacerations. Penetrating injuries are much more serious and often cause permanently impaired vision.
