A stone or bone tool used in the process of manufacturing other kinds of stone tools. The term is most often applied to a style of Mesolithic tool known in northwest Europe and believed to have been used in retouch flaking. It is a flint bar, D‐shaped in cross‐section, with rounded and usually rather worn ends.
