Germanastronomer and physician, son of D. Fabricius. With his father, he used the method of projection to study the Sun telescopically. He studied sunspots, of which he was one of a number of independent discoverers along with C. Scheiner, Galileo, and the Englishman Thomas Harriot (1560–1621). By observing the change in position of sunspots, Fabricius found that the Sun rotates.
