The Mercury spacecraft on the final flight of NASA's Mercury project. US astronaut Gordon Cooper piloted the mission, launched on an Atlas rocket on 15 May 1963 and returning to splashdown the following day. Faith 7 made 22 orbits in 34 hours and 19 minutes. This was NASA's first evaluation of the effects on an astronaut of spending a day in space.
