Feedback that informs athletes that they are doing better than they really are (false positive feedback), or that informs athletes that they are doing worse than they really are (false negative feedback). Future performance may be enhanced by false positive feedback, but only slightly and even then only if athletes believe it. False negative feedback tends to have a demoralizing effect.
