family of curves

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A set of similar curves which are of the same form and distinguished by the values taken by one or more parameters in their general equation. In particular, where the solution of a differential equation is obtained, the general solution will involve one or more constants of integration, giving rise to a family of curves. A particular member of the family may be identified as the required solution if boundary conditions are known.
