family pack

Quick Reference

A pack published by the Department for Education and Skills for use by parents and carers of young children with additional needs and disabilities. The pack is designed to facilitate the coordination of professional support and assist partnership working while keeping the family fully involved and at the centre of their child's support. The pack contains a family file, in which parents can write about their family, list the professionals involved with their child, and keep a record of professional contacts. Parents can make this file available to professionals, thus ensuring that the team involved in the care and education of the child is kept informed of the support given by fellow professionals from all agencies, and that information and processes are not duplicated. Also contained in the pack is a background file containing useful information about available services and routes of access. There is also a history file, in which parents can store paperwork that is no longer current but may be useful for reference purposes in the future.
