Quick Reference

An actin filament-bundling protein, first identified in sea urchin but a human homologue (493 aa) was subsequently identified. An important structural component of microspikes, membrane ruffles, and stress fibres. The actin binding ability is regulated by phosphorylation. There is a photoreceptor-specific paralogue (retinal fascin, FSCN2, 492 aa) and a testis-specific isoform (FSCN3, 498 aa).
