(1861–1929). Christian student of Hinduism who argued for a ‘fulfilment theory’ of the relation of Hinduism to Christianity. In 1913 he published his most influential work, The Crown of Hinduism. He left India in 1923 due to ill health, and became the second Professor of Comparative Religion at Manchester University.
