Quick Reference

A form of fata morgana, in which the flat and uniformly illuminated surface of the sea appears as a vertical or slightly overhanging wall of fog. Astigmatic imaging blurs any detail and also causes the ‘fog’ to appear brighter than its surroundings.

Subjects: Meteorology and Climatology.
