fat mobilization

Quick Reference

The breakdown of stored fat into free fatty acids which can be transported in the blood stream. Beta oxidation converts the free fatty acids into acetyl coenzyme A, which can enter the Krebs cycle and be used by respiring muscles to generateadenosin triphosphate. Endurance training improves the ability to mobilize fatty acids which may be used by respiring muscle and delay fatigue (see glycogen sparing).
