Prolific actor-playwright of Piedmontese origin, active (especially 1786–91) in Venice and Padua. He wrote Goldonian comedies of character, but cultivated pathos. He excelled at adapting foreign novelties, and was influenced by Iffland, Kotzebue, and the ‘comédie larmoyante’.
