Fell was born in 1758, probably at Brampton, Cumberland, and died at Shap, Westmoreland in March 1848. He was the younger brother of John Fell, a yeoman of Swindale Head Westmoreland. Fell found employment as a schoolmaster, first in at Manchester, then in Wilmslow, and finally in Lancaster. His one surviving son, Henry, went to live in Denmark.
