(1847–1916). Viennese architect and critic. Much influenced by Semper, he specialized in theatre-design, using Renaissance and Baroque languages, and, later, Jugendstil. He designed and built some fifty theatres and concert-halls, including the Deutsches Volkstheater, Vienna (1887–9), the Stadttheater, Graz (1898–9), the Jubiläums-Stadttheater, Baden-bei-Wien (1908–9), and the Stadttheater, Klagenfurt (1909–10), all in Austria, and all with Hermann Gottlieb Helmer (1849–1919).
