The effect on a soil of strong, tropical leaching and intense weathering. Organic matter is rapidly destroyed (so there is little humus), and bases and silica are leached. Sesquioxides in the B2 horizon form a hardpan that may be revealed by the erosion of the upper horizons. In US soil classification, ferrallitic soils are oxisols.
