Quick Reference

Human fetuin is α2-Heremans–Schmid glycoprotein (α2-HS-glycoprotein, AHSG, 367 aa) which is cleaved to produce A (282 aa) and B (27 aa) polypeptides. The plasma concentration falls progressively through childhood. AHSG promotes endocytosis, has opsonic properties, and has a high affinity for calcium, probably playing some role in bone metabolism and calcium homeostasis. Fetuin is a major component in fetal calf serum.
