Ballet in two acts with choreography and libretto by Saint-Léon, music by Pugni, sets by C. A. Cambon and J. Thierry, and costumes by P. Lormier. Premiered 20 Oct. 1847 at Paris Opera with Cerrito, Saint-Léon, and Desplaches. It tells the story of a sculptor who falls in love with his beautiful marble statue. The devil agrees to bring the marble girl to life on condition that she herself does not fall in love. When she fails to comply, she is returned to stone.
