Ballet in one act with choreography by L. Christensen, libretto by Kerstein, music by V. Thomson, and design by Paul Cadmus. Premiered 6 Jan. 1938 by Ballet Caravan at the Avery Memorial Theater, Hartford, Connecticut, with Christensen, Marie-Jeanne, Hawkins, Kidd, and Bolender. It was one of the first all-American ballets and its cast of contemporary cartoon-style characters includes Mac the filling station attendant, some truck drivers, a motorist, a drunk couple, and a gangster who shoots a girl—who miraculously survives. In 1951 it was revived by San Francisco Ballet and in 1953 by New York City Ballet.
