(Rossini: Il turco in Italia). Sop. Italian lady, wife of Geronio, but not averse to the attentions of other men. The Turkish Prince Selim finds her attractive, but is unable to decide between her and his old love, Zaida. Narciso also loves Fiorilla. At a masked ball the two ladies dress alike and so do the three men, causing utter confusion. The poet Prosdocimo, anxious to bring the day's events to a happy conclusion, sorts them all out and Geronio forgives Fiorilla for her infidelity. Created (1814) by Francesca Maffei‐Festa.
