Quick Reference

A knot very similar to a round turn and two half hitches, differing from it only in that the first of the two half hitches is made through the round turn and round the standing part of the rope instead of round the standing part only. It is the recognized knot with which a hawser is bent to the ring of an anchor. When used for this purpose the end of the rope, after the knot has been formed, is usually seized as a safety measure to the standing part with two or three turns of marline.
