A form of psychotherapy based on the personal construct theory of the US psychologist George A(lexander) Kelly (1905–66), first explored by Kelly and his colleagues in 1939 and described in his book The Psychology of Personal Constructs (1955, Volume 1, pp. 360–451), in which the client begins with a self-characterization then modifies it in the direction of a desired alternative.
