(1908–1994) Ruth Fizdale, a caseworker and administrator in health care, was a pioneer in professionalizing social work. Early in her career, she was a psychiatric caseworker at the Mandel Clinic of the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. She later worked at Jewish Family Services in Brooklyn and at the New York Association for New Americans, where she used counseling and job training to help immigrants become self-sustaining within a year of arriving in the United States.
