A derivative of vidarabine, an antiviral adenosine analogue, that is less susceptible to inactivation by adenosine deaminase. The active metabolite is 2-fluoro-ara-ATP which inhibits DNA polymerase α, ribonucleotide reductase and DNA primase. Used for treatment of adults with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia that has not responded to other drugs.
