A family of glasses mixed with an ionic polymer (polyalkenoic acid) which, when added to water, form glass ionomer cement. They are formed by fusing together the oxides of silica, alumina, calcium, sodium, and others with fluoride salts such as cryolite and calcium fluoride. Strontium, barium, or lanthanum is added to make the glass radiopaque.
