Quick Reference

A noninvasive imaging technique (functional MRI) that detects neural activity through monitoring changes in blood flow and thus energy demand, in different regions of the brain while specific tasks are carried out by the experimental subject. The method depends on the fact that haemoglobin is diamagnetic when oxygenated but paramagnetic when deoxygenated.

Subjects: Medicine and Health.
