The doubling back of two surfaces or membranes. The mucolabial fold extends from the alveolar mucosa of the maxilla or mandible to the lip and in the midline forms the fraenum. The mucobuccal fold extends from the alveolar mucosa of the mandible or maxilla to the cheek. The sublingual fold is formed by the sublingual gland and is a crescent-shaped area in the floor of the mouth following the medial wall of the mandible.
