Quick Reference

The main test in palaeomagnetism for determining the age of the remanent magnetization of rocks. Comparison of the scatter of directions of natural remanence from both sides of a fold, before and after correcting for the tectonic effects of the folding, enable the magnetization to be determined as pre-folding if the scatter is least after correction for folding.
