Quick Reference

A multicellular syncytium of macrophages that have fused in response to a large indigestible particle (e.g. talc, silica, or asbestos fibres). Up to 100 cells may contribute and the nuclei are randomly distributed. Langhans cells, found at the centre of tuberculous lesions, are similar but the nuclei tend to be peripherally located.
