Native speakers of the appropriate language employed in the language departments of schools, colleges, and universities to assist in the teaching of a modern foreign language, particularly by providing a model of practical language skills and accurate pronunciation. FLAs are often recruited from students studying English at a university in the country of origin, in which case their experience in a British school is expected to aid the development of their own English language skills. Their status and terms of employment within schools and other institutions is not equivalent to that of qualified teachers, and they are paid on a different scale. In United Kingdom schools they are organized through the Education and Training Group.
