forerunner

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A soldier who ran ahead of the main body of troops as a scout; often John the Baptist is so regarded, as is implied in Matt. 11: 10, in that he preceded Jesus and prepared his way. But in Heb. 6: 20 Jesus is himself called a forerunner, in that he is a kind of advance guard: he is already seated in heaven and his presence there guarantees the subsequent entry of all who belong to him.
