Wily father of Emer who opposes Cúchulainn's courtship of her and demands that the hero undertake a series of tasks, as described in Tochmarc Emire [The Wooing of Emer]; he wants his elder daughter Fial (2) married first. His task-setting has prompted some commentators to compare him with Eurystheus, task-master of Hercules.
