dedicated by Caesar in 46 bc, on land bought eight years earlier for 60 million sesterces, and completed by Octavian (Augustus). The forum had long colonnades on the east and west sides and a series of shops behind the west colonnade. The main entrance was at the south end, and by the SW corner lay the new Cūria Iūlia. (See curia.) The focal point of the forum was the octastyle temple of Venus Genetrix, mythical foundress of the Julian gens, which was completely rebuilt after a fire and rededicated in ad 113 by Trajan.
