(1884–1970). Author of numerous libretti and popular dramas, who collaborated with Mussolini on three plays, Campo di maggio (1930), Villafranca (1931), and Cesare (1939). He also wrote and directed the propagandistic film Camicia nera (1933). He was often perceived as a self-serving supporter of Fascism, and his artistic reputation did not survive its collapse.
