Studio behind the stage at the Paris Opera which is now used as a rehearsal stage and a reception venue but which was notorious in the 19th century (during the reign of Dr Véron) as the salon where members of the Jockey Club could meet dancers. Ashton's Foyer de danse (mus. Berners, Ballet Club, 1932) was based on Degas's studies of Paris dancers and portrayed an encounter between a dancer (orig. Markova) and her lascivious admirers.
