(1901 –87), was born in Upland, Pennsylvania, and attended Harvard. From 1926 until his death he lived in Amherst, Massachusetts. His home since 1940, a small, tree-shaded house he called ‘Fort Juniper’, inspired the name of the Juniper Prize for Poetry, which the University of Massachusetts Press established in his honour.
