Frankel appliance

[R. Frankel (1908–2001), German orthodontist] A removable functional orthodontic appliance which uses the oral and facial muscles to modify the growth of the jaws. It is made of a single block of acrylic resin designed to posture the mandible forwards and to open the bite. It is used to correct class II malocclusions although may be modified to correct class III malocclusions.
