Ballet in one act with choreography by R. Page and Stone, libretto by Michael Blandford and Jerome Moross (also music), and design by Paul Dupont. Premiered 19 Jun. 1938 by the Page-Stone Ballet at Great Northern Theatre, Chicago, with Page and Stone. It is based on the popular American ballad about a prostitute who shoots her faithless pimp. It has been revived by several companies, including Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo (1945), Pittsburgh Ballet (1976), Dance Theatre of Harlem (1981), and Joffrey Ballet (1999).
