A telephone service provided to businesses by British Telecom in which the business pays for incoming calls. A customer dials 0800/0808 and asks to be connected to a specified Freefone number, knowing that he or she will not have to pay for the call (although certain mobile operators may charge for access to Freefone). This service is much used by mail-order houses and lines dealing with customer complaints.
