Quick Reference

Formerly, the procedure in which parents gave their consent to the adoption of a child or this consent was dispensed with on statutory grounds. Parents gave their consent in general terms, rather than to an adoption by particular prospective adopters. It was abolished by the Children and Adoption Act 2002 and replaced by a new placement regime (see placement order).

Subjects: Law.
