Australian director. Founded Opera Factory in Sydney 1973, Opera Factory Zurich 1976, and Opera Factory London 1981. In London he prod. world première of Nigel Osborne's Hell's Angels (1986, lib. by Freeman) and Birtwistle's Yan Tan Tethera (1986). Also prod. Mozart's da Ponte operas, with Così fan tutte set on a bathing beach. Prods. for ENO incl. f. Brit. p. of Glass's Akhnaten (1985) and world première of Birtwistle's The Mask of Orpheus (1986).
