William Frend

(1757–1841), mathematician, university don, Unitarian, and inveterate reformer. A pupil of William Paley at Christ's College, where he entered in 1775, Frend became a Cambridge Latitudinarian when the movement was already in decline. Elected a fellow of Jesus College in 1781, he threw himself enthusiastically into teaching and into good works (including the founding of a Sunday school) in the nearby parish of Madingley, where he served as curate.
