A fold of mucosa which limits the movement of a tissue or organ. The buccal frenulum connects the tissues of the alveolar ridge with the cheek in the premolar region. The labial frenulum is situated in the midline and connects the mucous membrane of the lip with the alveolar ridge in the upper and lower jaws. The lingual frenulum is a thin vertical fold of tissue with attachments to the tongue and the floor of the mouth; it may limit the movement of the tongue (tongue-tie or ankyloglossia).
