A model of the universe corresponding to solutions of the Einstein field equations of general relativity theory associated with an expanding homogeneous isotropic universe. This model gives a good overall description of the evolution of the universe. It was proposed by Aleksandr Friedmann, Georges Lemaître, Howard Robertson, and Arthur Walker in the 1920s and 1930s.
