Fronte Nuovo delle Arti

Quick Reference

An association of Italian artists founded in 1946 with the aim of combating the pessimism of the post-war world and revitalizing Italian art, which had not been a leading force in Europe since the heyday of Futurism. Birolli and Guttuso were the best-known figures in the group, which embraced artists of very different styles and ideologies. The split between abstractionists and realists led to the dissolution of the association in 1948.
