Quick Reference

A secreted protein (461 aa) of the extracellular matrix that is important for the normal glycosylation of dystroglycan and its localization and function. Fukutin-related protein (495 aa) is also involved in the glycosylation. Disruption in the dystroglycan glycosylation pathway leads to Fukuyama muscular dystrophy, where the mutation is in fukutin, muscle–eye–brain disease, limb–girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I (where the mutation is in fukutin-related protein) and Walker–Warburg syndrome.
