Bp. of Ruspe in N. Africa from c.507 (or 502). He suffered persecution from the Arian king, Thrasamund. Soon after he became bishop he was banished to Sardinia. He returned to Africa c.515 (or 510) for a debate with the Arian clergy, was banished again two years later, and finally returned in 523. He wrote treatises against Arianism and Pelagianism.
