(Barcelona Centre de Disseny)
A private, non‐profit‐making foundation, the Barcelona Centre for Design (BCD) was established in 1973 with the aim of promoting design both as an instrument for industrial competitiveness and as a vehicle for providing society with a better quality of life. One of BCD's core activities is the development of marketing opportunities for Catalan and Spanish goods at home. Like many other design promotion organizations the BCD offers design advice and training to companies, particularly in the fields of product, environmental, packaging, and communications design. It is involved in developing effective design networks and runs a design information and documentation centre. Since 1987 the BCD has played a key role in the Premios Nacionales de Diseño (National Design Prizes) which were founded by the BCD and the Ministry of Industry and Energy (later Science and Industry). Since 1997 BCD has also organized the biennial Primavera del Diseño (Barcelona's International Design Festival) established in 1991.
