Overview

fused gene family

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A family of proteins that are associated with keratin intermediate filaments and are partially crosslinked to the cell envelope in keratinocytes. Members of the family include profilaggrin, trichohyalin, repetin, hornerin, and cornulin. The calcium binding EF-hand domain shows significant homology with that of S100 proteins, and the family is thought to have arisen through fusion between S100-type calcium-binding proteins and proteins involved in cornification.
