galactic magnetic field

Quick Reference

The magnetic field in interstellar space in the disk of a galaxy. Magnetic field strengths between 10−9 and 10−10 tesla occur in the disks of spiral galaxies, with an overall pattern roughly following the spiral structure. Fields in elliptical galaxies are much more difficult to estimate, but in those that are strong radio emitters it appears that the fields may reach 10−7 tesla.
